A Desktop Wiki
Testbed Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid)Installation: Via APT?
Version: 0.43-2
?Description:
Zim brings the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Store information, link pages and edit with WYSISYG markup. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing page. Pages are stored in a folder structure, like in an outliner, and can have attachments.

Basicly, Zim is intended to help creating a wiki on the desktop, which in turn can be interpreted as: you can use it as an excellent note taking application. All in all, it is neat and feature rich. Its features include easilhoy created lists and check boxes, ability to contain images and attachments, WYSIWYG text editor, ability to import from text files and export to HTML and calendar. additionally, it has a very cool Gnome-do plugin, and also supports plug-ins to perform tasks like spell checking, export, tray icon, to-do list and more.
However, it does not synchronize automatically and when I changed the file outside the Zim, I have presented a choice of discard changes made in Zim or save a copy. It also lacks support for tables, sub-tasks and reminder in TODO lists.
It is written using Gtk2-Perl and can be installed in Linux and Windows.
In a nutshell, it is suitable for newbies and great for geeks.
