Note Taking

Traditional paper sticky notes are ubiquitous and, in my office, everybody is using them, a lot!
I searched for a note taking applications in Linux. The free note taking tools I tried out, and liked, are listed here.

Moreover, there are some other useful links:

Creating a New Node in CherryTree

In order to start, right click on the left pane, which is reserved for showing the tree structure, and select Add Node. Another way of accessing this command is via Tree menu or Ctrl+N shortcut.
Start writing in the right pane. You can change justification, color and other text formatting.

Set and Unset Lists in CherryTree
Your note can also contain lists, images, links and simple tables like below:
• Bulleted and Numbered Lists can be Set/Unset using the toolbar on top of the window.
• As it is expected, another list item will be created as soon as you press Enter.
1. Lists can also be Set/Unset using the Edit menu
2. And continues by pressing Enter.

cell 3.3

Tables can also be created easily: There is a toolbar botton and an item under edit menu for Insert/Edit Table command.
After insertion of a table, you can edit headers and cells by clicking them, exactly as the click me suggests.

You can also import a lot of other formats like NoteCase and KeepNote. This feature is available via Import menu.

Automatic Syntax Highlighting of CherryTree
Additionally, using automatic syntax highlighting is as easy as selecting the highlight mode (language) when creating a new node or setting it later in the Change Node Properties window.

Preferences window of CherryTree

There are also some parameters that can be adjusted via Preferences.

Among the featutures that can be enabled, I like "Enable System Tray Docking" and "Autosave". In my opinion, these two features are essential for a note taking application.
